Workshop content and details

This workshop will be delivered over two days:

Saturday 4th May 2024
9:00am – 3:00pm AEST (QLD Time)

Saturday 8th June 2024
11:00am – 12:30pm AEST (QLD Time)

In the first workshop, parents, carers and teachers will learn about the key problem-solving skills for understanding and responding to daily life problems and occurrences. Then a specific technique will be presented on how to use everyday opportunities to support a person to develop these skills. Other tools will also be introduced to tailor the technique to the specific individual.

There will then be a second follow up session four weeks after the initial workshop where everyone will have a chance to share their progress with implementing the technique.

In this session, any barriers or challenges that participants have experienced will be discussed and workshopped and participants will be supported to further develop their application of the content with the specific individual they are supporting.

Poster 31: Common challenges for a person with an Autism Spectrum Disorder
Poster 32: Autism Spectrum Disorder – Life lessons

Tanya Curtis is well-known and highly regarded for her work with autism, and she will always maintain that a person is not their behaviour and that skills must not be expected but need to be taught.

These two posters detail the common challenges and life lessons for a person with an ASD, and while they do not apply to everybody on the spectrum, they provide more opportunities to learn new skills and gain self-mastery over what was might once have been perceived as difficult or even impossible.
