Parenting 101 – 5-Week Course – ONLINE

Presented by Emily, Provisional Psychologist & Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner

One of the most significant roles is supporting a child to become an adult… however, the question is:

What type of adults are we creating?

This group training aims to support people who are influencing a child’s development so that they feel equipped to parent in a way that supports the child to one day be independent, responsible and joy-full human beings! The group will support you to develop the skills so you feel equipped to deal with the challenges that can occur when raising responsible young people…

Workshop content and details

People put a lot of emphasis on ‘letting kids be kids’, however, if we actually breakdown a person’s life, there are not many years spent being a child.

Inevitably children soon become adults who live in society. Thus, we have 18 years to either support these people to become:

  • Dependent or INDEPENDENT
  • Irresponsible or RESPONSIBLE
  • Anxious or FEELING EQUIPPED FOR LIFE
  • Abusive or SUPPORTIVE TO OTHERS

The reality is, supporting children to become adults can be a difficult job and requires a great deal of skill.

Typically, the parenting skills we have are based on those we have observed from other people (our own parents, teachers, colleagues, friends etc.), or based on our pictures of what we would have hoped to occur for us when we were younger.

These parenting skills may, or may not, be supportive to raise the child you are supporting to become an adult and they also may not leave you feeling equipped to raise a child.

This group training will support people who are influencing a child’s development to support the child to become independent, responsible and joy-full human beings!

Poster 32: Autism Spectrum Disorder – Life lessons

Tanya Curtis is well-known and highly regarded for her work with autism, and she will always maintain that a person is not their behaviour and that skills must not be expected but need to be taught.

These two posters detail the common challenges and life lessons for a person with an ASD, and while they do not apply to everybody on the spectrum, they provide more opportunities to learn new skills and gain self-mastery over what was might once have been perceived as difficult or even impossible.
